Doing Church Differently

What a challenging book...

"Jim and Casper Go to Church" by Jim Henderson and Matt Casper.

A believer and an atheist visit a bunch of churches including,

Saddleback, Dream Center, Mosaic, Willow Creek, Lakewood, The Potter's House.

Socrates said,

An unexamined life is not worth living.

Try that on what's happening in churches today.

What would Jesus think if he walked into our Sunday morning services?

Moving on,

I'm trying another Bible reading plan.

Last month I tried to read five psalms a day and failed.

This month I'm starting one psalm a day.

I know, it'll take me five months.

But I love the psalms and I want to treat them right.

That's the organized part of the reading.

I'll be dipping into other sections "as the Spirit moves me."

Today from Psalm 4...

Take away my distress, or stress.

Give me relief from my distress.

NASB says it's already happened...

You have relieved me in my distress. Psalm 4:1

Then there's the anger issue.

Don't sin my letting anger gain control over you.

Think about it overnight and remain silent.

Meditate in your heart upon your bed, and be still.

When you are on your beds,

search your hearts and be silent.

I like the King James...

Commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Psalm 4:4

Hmmm.

Let the light of Your face shine upon us, O Lord,

You have filled my heart with greater joy.

You have put gladness in my heart.

I will lie down in peace and sleep,

for You alone, O Lord, will keep me safe. Psalm 4:6-8
