Religulous

"My evolution really was as someone who was a Catholic, had it drilled into my head when I was a small child,

and then slowly had it drilled out by becoming an adult and realizing it was a load of nonsense," says comedian Bill Maher.

I'm certainly not recommending his new movie, "Religulous" by mentioning it here.

But what's our reaction to be?

Or maybe, "response" is a better word.

Whatever first comes to mind is probably the opposite of what Jesus would do.

He sees thing so differently than we do.

We need to pray for Bill Maher.

He'd probably say, "No thanks!"

But we still need to pray for him.

He's right in this...

"Religion does more harm than good."

There is so much that's embarassing, that's just plan wrong.

We need relationship, not religion.

Vice-presidential candidate Governor Sarah Palin is another example.

The media is mercilously pouncing on her.

Maybe some of the criticism is justified. Maybe.

But the attacks go deeper than that.

We need to pray for Sarah Palin.

The Bible very clearly states to pray for all those in authority. 1 Timothy 2:1-3

Persecution of Christians is on the rise.

Unbelievers would be quick to say, "Oh, they've got a persecution complex!"

Persecution is on the rise, but there are benefits.

They put slave masters over the children of Israel to oppress them with forced labor,

but the more they were oppressed,

the more they multiplied and spread. Exodus 1:11-12

What's God's take on all that's happening down here?

O God, move our hearts.

Let them beat in tune with Yours.
