About three o'clock in the morning...
(The darkest hour is just before dawn.
Weeping may come in the night,
but joy comes in the morning.)
...Jesus came to the disciples,
walking on the water.
(Displaying His miracle working power.)
When the disciples saw Him,
they screamed in terror,
thinking He was a ghost.
(Why are we surprised/shocked
when God shows us His power?
We really don't get how big He really is.)
But Jesus spoke to them at once.
(At once. The Comforter is right there
beside you and me.)
"It's all right," he said.
"I am here! Don't be afraid."
(Doesn't that just flood you with peace right now?
To hear Jesus say it's going to be alright.
Do you believe that right now?
Whatever trial you're going through right now...
Jesus is here reasurring...
"It's going to be alright."
Why is it going to be alright?
Because He is here.
The nearness of God is my good.
"Don't be afraid.")
Peter took his turn walking on the water.
(That was a gutsy thing to do.)
But when he looked around at the high waves...
(We have to keep our eyes on Jesus,
not the circumstances all around us.
The waves are high.
They're scary if that's what you're looking at.)
He was terrified and began to sink.
(Been there?)
"Save me, Lord!" he shouted.
(When you need help...call out!
Be specific. "Save me, Lord!"
And when you say "Lord"...
that's recognizing Who is the One who is on control.
And...he shouted!
Not a wimpy, "Save me, if you can."
It was a shout of faith.)
Instantly Jesus reached out His hand and grabbed him.
(He's always there.
He's just a call away.)
"You don't have much faith," Jesus said.
"Why did you doubt Me?"
(Do you believe the Word of God?
Do you use the Word of God?
When you're in dire straits?
I had to use this several times today...
Jesus said,
"It's all right. I am here. Don't be afraid."
Say it. Say it out loud. Believe it.)
And when they climbed back into the boat,
(into the security of His protection)
the wind (i.e. the adversity, the trial, the things that come against you)
stopped.
(And the disciples' response?)
Then they worshiped Him.
"You really are the Son of God!" they exclaimed.
