Doing things to be seen by men doesn't cut it. Who are we trying to please anyway? Rick Nelson sang, "But it's alright now, I learned my lesson well. You see, ya can't please everyone, so ya got to please yourself." Right and wrong. Right that you can't please everyone. Wrong that his conclusion is you got to please yourself. You got to please...God! Get shut in with Him. How much time do we spend listening to God? Or even others for that matter? Really listening. One of the youth centre workers told of a girl who was so thankful someone would listen to her. She said her mother told her she shouldn't even be here. I tried to drink you away when I was pregnant, she told her. The girl herself has made attempts at suicide. But she says, "I'm still here." To her that means God has a plan for her. Listening to others is important. Listening to God is top priority. A young person asked for prayer this morning after church. I sensed immediately the word, "journey" and prayed along that line. He's on a journey. If he obeys God in what he's sensing Him telling Him right now... other things will open up for him. Because our God is a faithful God. Intent on blessing His children. Do YOU believe God wants to bless YOU? Oh, we need to be travailing in prayer like never before. Prayer IS work. Taking the time. How do we ever expect anything to ever change personally, corporately and in our world if we don't take the time to pray? It seems I have to start many prayer times with, "Lord, forgive me, for not coming to You as often as I should." How will we ever get fine-tuned if we don't come to The Fine Tuner in prayer? Waiting on Him. Right at this point last night in prayer I felt to pray for protection. Not knowing for whom specifically, I prayed for the youth centre and my family members. Then co-workers came to mind. The busier it gets, the more we need to pray. Fret not. Trust. Commit. If the prayer engine isn't working... nothing will happen. The Bible's right when it says we don't know how to pray as we ought. That's why He's given His Spirit to pray in and through us. How little we make use of this divine resource. Waiting in prayer. To hear if He might speak something to us. This is a call to prayer. Will YOU respond? Lord, send Your Holy Spirit conviction. That's it! That's enough! Sometimes I get angry with the devil in prayer. Back off, devil! He's been hoodwinking the people. So many things conspire to keep us from approaching the throne of grace for help in time of need. Let that change.
