Not About Me

Why am I hesitant to pray?

Undisciplined.

Do I really believe it's important?

Rather than just getting fodder for my blog,

the focus should be meeting with Him.

A divine encounter.

I'm a man of spiritual flab

and I live among a people of spiritual flab.

We show prayer is important by showing up.

But often I come with my own agenda.

When I should be coming to listen.

To receive.

Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow.

And... marching orders.

Deliver us, Lord, from self-centered prayer.

Living for Jesus?

Show me.

I don't want to be a hobby Christian.

If I'm going to be of any earthly good,

I better get heavenly-connected.

What's done in my own strength will get blown away.

Doesn't amount to a hill of beans.

Hallowed be Your Name.

Do I hallow Your Name or is my life just so much fluff?

"Couldn't you pray one hour," He asks.

Need to confess the sin of prayerlessness.

It's supposed to be a life of prayer.

From that will flow the supernatural.

Don't fear the supernatural.

God, after all, is supernatural.

I thought I'd like to have this on my epitaph...

"A man of prayer."

But prayer isn't an end in itself.

Here's a better epitaph...

"O, how he loved Jesus."

Lord, purify my heart.

Getting to prayer is hard.

But it's worth it to persevere.

"More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of," said Tennyson.
