Why Am I Doing This?

The talk last night was about rewards.

A person's work will be shown for what it is,

because Judgement Day will bring it to light.

It will be revealed with fire,

and the fire will test the quality of each man's work. 1 Corinthians 3:13

The fire will show if a person’s work has any value.

For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ,

that each one may receive what is due him

for the things done while in the body,

whether good or bad. 2 Corinthians 5:10

Do we do what we do for the rewards?

Do we do it for the "treasures in heaven"?

Is that our motive?

Or do we do what we do because it needs to be done?

Because we "love Jesus"?

Because doing what He says is better for us?

Of course, we're not motivated by fear, pride, guilt.

But I'm not sure.

I don't feel I'm in it for the rewards.

It almost feels dirty to me talking about rewards.

Maybe I do what I do because of a deep desire.

To see needs met.

Maybe because of a command.

A prompting of the Holy Spirit.

A habit. (There ARE good habits.)

A duty.

A commitment.

It came to me in prayer...

The enemy would try and make you think you're not doing any good.

Especially when you pray.

"We have a powerful adversary

who would love to exploit all our weaknesses and infirmities in prayer,

but we have an almighty and merciful God,

who waits to be gracious and has promised for the sake of His Son to hear the cries of His people."

"The one concern of the devil

is to keep the saint from praying.

He fears nothing from prayerless studies, prayerless work, prayerless religion.

He laughs at our toil, mocks at our wisdom,

but he trembles when we pray." - Samuel Chadwick

Let us therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace,

that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need. Hebrews 4:16.

I prayed last night for sensitivity to the leading of the Holy Spirit.

When we pray we should expect to receive.

Believing prayer makes it past the ceiling.

God's Word does not return void.

It accomplishes what He sent it out to do.

Pray believing to receive.
