Most of us do not need another Bible study to advance our walk with God,
we just need to obey what we already know, that would change the world!
- Perry Noble
What do you do with Hebrews 6:4-6?
For it is impossible, meaning...not possible...
for those who were 1) once enlightened,
and 2) have tasted the heavenly gift,
and 3) have become partakers of the Holy Spirit,
and 4) have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come,
if they fall away,
Note:- there's difference between "falling" and "falling away"...
it is impossible...
to renew them again to repentance,
Impossible, why?
since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God,
they themselves are nailing Him to the cross again,
and put Him to an open shame.
One interpretation holds that this passage is not written about Christians
but about unbelievers who are convinced of the basic truths of the gospel
but who have not placed their faith in Jesus Christ as Savior.
The other interpretation holds that this passage is written about Christians,
and that the phrases "partakers of the Holy Ghost," "enlightened," and "tasted of the heavenly gift" are all descriptions of true believers.
When you read the four descriptors above...
does it sound like a Christian or a non-Christian to you?
Those who hold to the intrepretation that it's about non-Christians
point to the following verses to support the belief in the believer's eternal security...
My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me.
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish;
no one can snatch them out of my hand.
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all;
no one can snatch them out of my Father's hand. John 10:27-29
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Romans 8:35
Being confident of this,
that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus. Philippians 1:6
The final line for me is...it's all serious business.
Eternally serious.
Not to be taken lightly.
The wages of sin...what we have earned...what we deserve...
is death,
but the free gift of God...and gifts have to be received, right?...
is eternal life
through Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23
We all need to heed the warning...
We must listen very carefully to the truth we have heard,
or we may drift away from it. Hebrews 2:1
What makes us think we can escape if we ignore this great salvation? Hebrews 3:1
Today when you hear His voice,
don’t harden your hearts. Hebrews 3:7-8
Be careful then, dear brothers and sisters.
It does say, "brothers and sisters".
Make sure that your own hearts are not evil and unbelieving,
turning you away from the living God. Hebrews 3:12
When the ground soaks up the falling rain and bears a good crop for the farmer,
it has God’s blessing.
But
if a field bears thorns and thistles, it is useless.
The farmer will soon condemn that field and burn it.
Burning sounds final, doesn't it?
Here comes the good news...
Dear friends,
even though we are talking this way,
we really don’t believe it applies to you.
We are confident that you are meant for better things,
things that come with salvation.
For God is not unjust.
He will not forget how hard you have worked for him
and how you have shown your love to him by caring for other believers, as you still do.
Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts,
in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true.
Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent.
Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance. Hebrews 6:7-12
We who have fled to him for refuge can have great confidence as we hold to the hope that lies before us.
This hope is a strong and trustworthy anchor for our souls.
It leads us through the curtain into God’s inner sanctuary. Hebrews 6:18-19
