The lead singer of The Fray explains he wrote the song, "How To Save A Life",
about an experience he had working at a camp for troubled youths.
"I was paired up with a 17 year old who had all these problems.
And no one could write a manuel on how to save him."
There IS a manuel.
The Bible.
Lord, forgive us for withholding the gift of life.
Give us discernment for the hurting.
The depressed.
King David sunk about as low as you can go.
Be merciful to me, O Lord, for I am in distress;
my eyes grow weak with sorrow,
my soul and my body with grief.
Tears blur my eyes,
I am withering away.
My life is consumed by anguish
and my years by groaning;
my strength fails because of my affliction,
and my bones grow weak.
I am wasting away from within.
Because of all my enemies,
I am the utter contempt of my neighbors;
I am a dread to my friends...
even my friends are afraid to come near.
When they see me on the street, they flee from me.
They run the other way.
I am forgotten by them as though I were dead;
I have become like broken pottery.
For I hear the slander of many, the rumors;
there is terror on every side;
they conspire against me
and plot to take my life. Psalm 31:9-13
But fortunately for King David, he looked up.
But...in spite of all this... I am trusting you, O Lord,
saying, "You are my God!"
My future is in Your hands.
Rescue me from those who hunt me down relentlessly. Psalm 31:14-15
Oh that we would speak a word of comfort and release.
Not held back by fear.
Not be cloistered inside church walls.
Bring the walls down.
Stir us, move us, shake us.
Rain down on us.
Forgive us for wasting time.
Do a work in our hearts.
Break our hearts with what breaks Yours.
The lost.
Those in need of saving.
Draw Your people to pray.
Remind us we wrestle not against flesh and blood...
