Christian Commentary Encouraging Devotions

Give justice to the poor and the orphan;
uphold the rights of the oppressed and the destitute.
Rescue the poor and helpless;
deliver them from the grasp of evil people. Psalm 82:3-4

Praise the Lord!
For though I was poor and needy,
he rescued me from my oppressors. Jeremiah 20:13

...a beautiful cedar palace does not make a great king!
Your father, Josiah, also had plenty to eat and drink.
But he was just and right in all his dealings.
That is why God blessed him.
He gave justice and help to the poor and needy,
and everything went well for him.
Isn’t that what it means to know me?"
says the Lord.   Jeremiah 22:15-16

This is what the Lord says: Be fair-minded and just. Do what is right!

Help those who have been robbed; rescue them from their oppressors.

Quit your evil deeds! Do not mistreat foreigners, orphans, and widows.

Stop murdering the innocent!   Jeremiah 22:13

We urge you to warn those who are lazy.

Encourage those who are timid. Take tender care of those who are weak.

Be patient with everyone.

See that no one pays back evil for evil,

but always try to do good to each other and to all people.

Always be joyful. Never stop praying.

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

Do not stifle the Holy Spirit. Do not scoff at prophecies,

but test everything that is said. Hold on to what is good.

Stay away from every kind of evil.   1Thessalonians 5:14-24

"Does not my word burn like fire?"says the Lord.
"Is it not like a mighty hammer that smashes a rock to pieces?   Jeremiah 23:29

"I know the plans I have for you," says the Lord.

"They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

In those days when you pray, I will listen.

If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.

I will be found by you," says the Lord.

"I will end your captivity and restore your fortunes.

I will gather you out of the nations where I sent you and will bring you home again to your own land."  Jeremiah 29:10-14

Long ago the Lord said:
"I have loved you, my people, with an everlasting love.
With unfailing love I have drawn you to myself.

There is hope for your future" Jeremiah 31:3,17
