John 20:19That evening, on the first day of the week, the disciples were meeting behind locked doors because they were afraid of the Jewish leaders. Suddenly, Jesus was standing there among them! "Peace be with you," he said. 20As he spoke, he held out his hands for them to see, and he showed them his side. They were filled with joy when they saw their Lord! 21He spoke to them again and said, "Peace be with you. As the Father has sent me, so I send you." 22Then he breathed on them and said to them, "Receive the Holy Spirit. (NLT)
1) Realize. They were afraid. They were in need. Nothing wrong with acknowledging your need. It's the starting point. We have clients from an alcohol/drug detox center drop in to our church which is next door. These people realize their need. Good place to be.
2) Recognize. I was sharing with someone how I couldn't for the life of me understand how anyone could be happy apart from Jesus. Thankfully, he agreed. That was awesome to hear him say that. Suddenly, Jesus was there. Do you know today that Jesus is just a prayer away? When we call, He's there. Awesome!
3) Remember. He showed them His hands and side. We need to constantly remember that all we are/all we have is because of His sacrifice. Any power for living comes from His death, burial and resurrection on our behalf.
4) Receive. Speaking of power, Jesus has sent His Holy Spirit to be in, on, all over us, moving us, motivating us, guiding us, teaching us. Have you asked Him for the gift of His Holy Spirit. There is a measure of the Holy Spirit we receive when we receive Jesus as Lord and Savior. There is an added dimension, a second blessing if you will, that comes after. Read about this blessing in the book of Acts.
5) Run. "As the Father has sent me, so I send you." God has a plan and purpose for our lives. Are we fulfilling His plan? Lord help us to obey and run with it.
6) I said there was another "r" word. It's a way to answer the question people may be asking about you and me, "Are they Christians?" It's "reflect". How do we reflect Him? By allowing the various fruits of the Spirit to be evidenced in our lives. Galatians 5:22, ""the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith." Make our lives a reflection of You, Lord Jesus. So that people won't have to guess. They'll see and know that we are Yours.
