A Line in the Sand

The teachers of the law and the Pharisees brought in a woman caught in adultery.

John 8:3-8

They made her stand before the group and said to Jesus,

"Teacher, this woman was caught in the act of adultery.

In the Law Moses commanded us to stone such women.

Now what do you say?"

They were using this question as a trap, in order to have a basis for accusing him.

But Jesus bent down and started to write on the ground with his finger.

When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them,

"If any one of you is without sin, let him be the first to throw a stone at her."

Again he stooped down and wrote on the ground.

I believe the Lord showed me that Jesus was drawing a line in the sand, saying the enemy can only go this far and no more.

It's a powerful picture of a powerful God putting the limits on a defeated foe.

Remember the enemy's power is limited, but God's power is unlimited!

And now from Psalm 119:81-88

I faint with longing. My soul languishes.

My eyes are straining to see Your promises come true.

I am shrivelled like a wineskin in the smoke, exhausted with waiting.

How long must I wait?

They persecute me.

They have dug deep pits for me to fall into.

They hunt me down without cause.

They almost finished me off.

But I have put my hope in Your word.

I cling to Your principles and obey them.

I refuse to abandon Your commandments.
