"I wonder what impact we're making in our city."
Truth is we may never know this side of eternity.
Another truth is...God keeps the books.
We'll find out in heaven, for better or for worse, what impact all of us have had.
But there is something we can do.
Reading about Moses, remember when God told him to do something?
The Egyptians were oppressing the Israelites, hoping to wear them down under heavy burdens. Exodus 1:11
God told Moses, "I am sending you to Pharaoh. You will lead my people, the Israelites, out of Egypt." Exodus 3:10
And Moses replied, "Great! I can't wait! Let's get started!"
Not!
He came up with a litany of excuses.
"Who am I to appear before Pharaoh?"
"How can you expect me to lead the Israelites out of Egypt?"
God told him the key, "I will be with you."
That's always the key to anything God asks us to do.
Without Him we can do nothing, right?
Moses continued to make excuses.
"They won't believe me."
"They won't do what I tell them."
"They'll just say, ' The Lord never appeared to you.' "
"I'm just not a good speaker."
"Send someone else." Exodus 3:11-4:13
God must have really gotten tired of hearing all these excuses!
Are we any different though?
How many times has God told you or me to do something and we've brought forth a similar list of reasons why not?
When all He really requires is simple obedience.
Why do we have to complicate things so often?
Lord, give me a willing, obedient heart.
Then, just watch the impact our lives will make for Him.
