Ever Goof Up?

Happened to me yesterday.

So, what am I learning from this?

1) Confess you did something wrong.

This is always the first step.

I did it! I'm not shirking from my responsibility.

Part of it was out of of my control.

I'm purposing to deal with the part that relates to me and leave the other part to whomever.

2) Cry out to God for mercy.

Versus continuing to beat yourself up about it.

We are doing dishonor to God to figure we are able to fix anything at all on our own.

Really when you think about it... the enemy of our souls would just love you and I to wallow in self-pity and defeat.

Don't let him! Don't allow him to get the victory over you! Fight back!

And when thoughts of despair and defeat try to creep back in, cry out to God some more!

At the sound of your cry when He hears it, the Lord will answer you. (from another psalm)

3) Expect consequences. Will there be continuing fallout from the mistake? Perhaps.

Do not fear what may come. Deal with it when it comes/ if it comes.

4) Don't make a mountain out of a molehill.

Why am I worrying about this?

Who else in the light of a new day is even thinking about it?

Was it really such a horrible thing?

Note:- Rather than trying to minimize your mistake, the focus should be on... not maximizing it.

4) Trust God.

Psalm 125 says,

Those who trust in the Lord are as secure as Mount Zion;

they will not be defeated but will endure forever.

Shall be as Mount Zion which cannot be removed but abides forever.

Cannot be shaken but endures forever.

5) Pray through.

God has given us the weapon of prayer. Use it!

When thoughts of defeat and "what if" come flooding in, allow the Lord to raise up a standard,

the standard of prayer.

When those thoughts try to come in again, pray some more!

6) Learn all God wants you to learn from this.

God is a good God. I say He's in control of my life, right?

So, nothing can happen that He doesn't allow, right?

What a powerful statement.

When bad things happen to good people, don't ask, "Why me?"

Ask, what can I learn about You and Your character in this, Lord?

See, the learning never ceases.

We'll be learning right up to the grave and beyond.

7) Immerse yourself in His Word.

Read until you're purged of the fear, disappointment, embarrassment, self-loathing, whatever.

Psalm 125 says,

Just as the mountains surround and protect Jerusalem,

so the Lord surrounds and protects His people, both now and forever.

The wicked will not rule the godly.

(Only if you let them will they. But, as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.)

O Lord, do good to those who are good,

whose hearts are in tune with You.

Let Israel have quietness and peace.

Is your burden heavy as you bear it all alone?

Why are you bearing it all alone?

Come unto Me, says Jesus.

My yoke is easy. My burden is light.

You will find rest for your soul.
