In the Dry Times

Remember how the Lord your God led you all the way in the desert these forty years,

to humble you and to test you in order to know what was in your heart,

whether or not you would keep His commands. Deuteronomy 8:2

...to teach you that man does not live on bread alone

but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord. Deuteronomy 8:3

God disciplines you. Deuteronomy 8:5

Think about it:

Just as a parent disciplines a child, the Lord your God disciplines you for your own good.

The Lord your God is bringing you into a good land...you will lack nothing. Deuteronomy 8:7-9

(But the wilderness is...)

to test you so that in the end it might go well with you. Deuteronomy 8:16

He did all this so you would never say to yourself,

‘I have achieved this wealth with my own strength and energy.’ Deuteronomy 8:17

Brought out by His mighty hand, His outstretched arm... Deuteronomy 7:19, 9:29, 11:2

His powerful arm.

If you faithfully obey...then I will send rain. Deuteronomy 11:13,14

Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods...

then the Lord's anger will burn against you.

Then you will quickly die in that good land the Lord is giving you.

Fix these words in your hearts and minds. Deuteronomy 11:16-18

Every place where you set your foot will be yours.

No man will be able to stand against you.

See, I am setting before you today a blessing and a curse -

the blessing if you obey...

the curse if you disobey. Deuteronomy 11:24-28

Hear, O Israel ( meaning the church...us),

today you are going into battle against your enemies.

Do not be fainthearted or afraid;

do not be terrified or give way to panic before them.

For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you

to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.

Don't waver in resolve.

Don't fear.

Don't hesitate.

Don't panic.

God, your God, is right there with you,

fighting with you against your enemies, fighting to win.

Deuteronomy 20:3-4
