Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, Archbishop of Genoa, broke the church's official silence on the controversial book. Its story about the Church suppressing the "truth" that Jesus had a child with Mary Magdalene has convinced many fans. The Bible says Jesus never married, was crucified and rose from the dead. The archbishop told Il Giornale: "The book is everywhere. There is a very real risk that many people who read it will believe that the fables it contains are true." The Da Vinci Code, by US author Dan Brown, has been a publishing sensation around the world and is still in best-seller lists. Its conspiracy theories and thriller style, in which two code-breakers try to track down the truth behind the Holy Grail, have caught the imaginations of millions. Its central claim is that the Holy Grail is really the bloodline descended from Jesus and Mary Magdalene - which the Church is supposed to have covered up, along with the female role in Christianity. It is also being turned into a film starring Tom Hanks. Well, enough about fables. Here's the truth! Matthew 22:1 Jesus told them several other stories to illustrate the Kingdom. He said, 2"The Kingdom of Heaven can be illustrated by the story of a king who prepared a great wedding feast for his son. 3Many guests were invited, and when the banquet was ready, he sent his servants to notify everyone that it was time to come. But they all refused! 4So he sent other servants to tell them, `The feast has been prepared, and choice meats have been cooked. Everything is ready. Hurry!' 5But the guests he had invited ignored them and went about their business, one to his farm, another to his store. 6Others seized his messengers and treated them shamefully, even killing some of them. 7"Then the king became furious. He sent out his army to destroy the murderers and burn their city. 8And he said to his servants, `The wedding feast is ready, and the guests I invited aren't worthy of the honor. 9Now go out to the street corners and invite everyone you see.' 10"So the servants brought in everyone they could find, good and bad alike, and the banquet hall was filled with guests. 11But when the king came in to meet the guests, he noticed a man who wasn't wearing the proper clothes for a wedding. 12`Friend,' he asked, `how is it that you are here without wedding clothes?' And the man had no reply. 13Then the king said to his aides, `Bind him hand and foot and throw him out into the outer darkness, where there is weeping and gnashing of teeth.' 14For many are called, but few are chosen." (NLT) Today, if you don't already know Jesus as Lord and Savior, you are being called. Right now. As you read this. Won't you accept the invitation? It's for the so-called "good" and also for "the bad". Let Jesus fit you out with the proper clothing, robes of righteousness. It'll be just the beginning of an amazing journey. Psalm 40: 1 I waited patiently for the LORD to help me, 2 He lifted me out of the pit of despair, 3 He has given me a new song to sing, 4 Oh, the joys of those who trust the LORD, 5 O LORD my God, you have done many miracles for us. 6 You take no delight in sacrifices or offerings. 7 Then I said, "Look, I have come. 8 I take joy in doing your will, my God,
and he turned to me and heard my cry.
out of the mud and the mire. He set my feet on solid ground
and steadied me as I walked along.
a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see what he has done and be astounded.
They will put their trust in the LORD.
who have no confidence in the proud,
or in those who worship idols.
Your plans for us are too numerous to list. If I tried to recite all your wonderful deeds,
I would never come to the end of them.
Now that you have made me listen, I finally understand--
you don't require burnt offerings or sin offerings.
And this has been written about me in your scroll:
for your law is written on my heart." (NLT)
